TNHB (Tamil Nadu Housing Board) decided to build around 92 middle incoem group (MIG) houses in three and a half cents of land last year. They invited applications from interested parties but till date, only around 18 parties have shown interest. Guessing that doubts regarding the quality of construction could be making public apprehensive, TNHB allowed people to directly supervise the work being performed. However, it still appears that people are not willing to take risk.

The Chennai Metropolitan development Authority (CMDA) regulates building development by issuing building plan permission within the Chennai Metropolitan area. CMDA has given local authorities the right to approve building plans for regular residential, industrial, and commercial use zones and also did sub divisions and small layouts. CMDA gives approvals for special buildings, multi storeyed buildings, group developments and other developments along with layouts for which other authorities power for approval.

Field extract or town survey land extract act as the revenue land records for land in Tamil nadu. They are the equivalent of patta issued in municipalities and town areas. At present, these estate are provided manually. However, soon they will be computerized. The document will mention the name of the owner, door number of the property, name of the street, and extent of land in sq. m. or hectares.
